Lindsey O'Brien Kesling

Date of Passing
November 9, 2010
Lindsey accomplished more in 22 years than many do in a lifetime. She supported her peers and showed up with determination and care. Four months after graduating college, she moved to Scottsdale, AZ to begin her career. Her apartment didn’t have a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm, even though a garage was directly beneath it. Lindsey and her dog died from accidental CO exposure.
A year later, the LOK Wishing Tree was created in her memory. Since then, we’ve worked with fire departments and helped pass an update to Indiana’s building code requiring CO alarms in all new construction. We also launched the Teen Leadership Curriculum (TLC), which teaches youth about CO safety and ends with a student-led outreach event. The program is now growing in Boys & Girls Clubs across North America.
CO is undetectable without an alarm, and prevention starts with awareness. Teaching young people is how we build a safer future.
